New Patients

What to bring to your first Eye Exam.

Please bring to your appointment:

  • Your Alberta Health Care card
  • Insurance information
  • Medication list
  • Checklist for new patients
  • Referral information, reports
  • A driver if you are normally dilated for testing

What to expect during your eye exam:

You will be asked to fill out a brief health history to include previous and current eye conditions and treatments, systemic conditions, family history of eye diseases, current list of medications and medication allergies, etc.

You will go through preliminary testing with an optometric assistant, including eye pressure testing, screening peripheral vision testing, and retinal imaging. You will then be seen by an optometrist who will assess your vision and eye health. Treatment options will also be discussed which may include spectacles, contact lenses, vision therapy, nutritional information, visual hygiene and visual ergonomics.

Alberta Health Care covers one complete examination, one partial and one single procedure per year for children up to 18 years of age, and adults over 65 years of age.
